Big tech promotions: socially accepted pyramid schemes

Pretty much every big tech asks that engineers have a higher influence on the company to get promotion, and this is often measured by how many people you’re “mentoring” or helping on projects with, giving input on designs, and generally playing the political influence game. This is a socially accepted pyramid scheme.

The story on how I realised this, and also make parallels between promotion culture/influences and game design, and look to game design to improve the promotion process.
